Training software a compliance audit can survive

L&D buyers are not paying for video hosting. They are paying for a record that says who trained, what they scored, and whether it reached the HR system that keeps score.

What makes corporate training different from other edtech

5 things that decide this

  1. 01The buyer is HR or L&D, and their success metric is completion tied to a role, not engagement with content.
  2. 02Training records have to reach the HRIS. A course that finishes inside its own app and nowhere else is invisible to payroll, compliance and managers.
  3. 03SCORM and xAPI exist because every company already owns a learning management system, and a new tool has to report into it rather than replace it.
  4. 04Live corporate events carry the same load spike as a school system: everyone joins the same session at the same time, once, and it has to work.
  5. 05Recognition and reward programs need a live link to real work data, not a spreadsheet someone updates once a month.
The real problem

A course that finishes and reports nowhere

Most training platforms get built as a video player with a progress bar. That works until legal or HR needs proof one employee finished one module by one date. The answer has to come from a system of record, not a screenshot.

SCORM and xAPI (Tin Can) are the formats that carry completion and score data out of a course. The first works inside a single browser session. A mobile app, a simulation, or a live event needs xAPI instead, since it reports to a Learning Record Store rather than one LMS. Corporate training increasingly needs the second format, because the training itself is not always a browser page.

The second link is the HRIS. A completion record that never reaches Workday or BambooHR does not exist for a manager checking a team's compliance status. ExtraaJe runs the reverse pipeline: a Supabase backend reads shift data from Planwork and converts it into points automatically. HR stops tracking activity by hand, and the same sync discipline applies whichever direction the data moves.

  • 01Decide the record format before the interface: SCORM for browser courses, xAPI for anything else.
  • 02Sync completion data into the HRIS on a schedule HR can audit, not on request.
  • 03Treat every training event as a claim with a timestamp and a source system.

Where we are useful

Live training events at scale

Elevent runs real-time multiplayer sessions for corporate training, holding sync from 10 to over 1000 participants with three modes and one admin portal for questions and monitoring.

Engagement tied to real activity

ExtraaJe turns shift data from Planwork into points a workforce redeems, scored automatically against rules HR sets. No manual overtime tracking, no spreadsheet.

HRIS and LMS sync

Completion, scores and activity data move into the systems that already run HR and compliance, so a training record is not stranded inside its own app.

Gamified programs that hold attention

Points, leaderboards, challenges and campaigns built to keep adult learners returning, configured by HR rather than hardcoded by us.

What a training record has to surviveLive
  1. JoinEveryone starts the same session.
  2. AttemptThe actual answer, scored.
  3. ScoreTied to a person and a role.
  4. SyncSent to the LMS or HRIS.
  5. AuditA manager can pull the record months later.

Most platforms are built for the first two steps. The last three are what a compliance buyer actually pays for.

The trap

Engagement is not the number HR renews on

A gamified training app is easy to make fun and easy to make hollow. Points and leaderboards drive activity, but activity is not the thing a manager needs to defend in a review.

On ExtraaJe, points come from real shift and overtime data pulled from Planwork, not from opening the app. That distinction is what makes the reward program defensible when HR has to explain why someone earned what they earned.

Build the scoring rule against a source of truth your client already trusts. A leaderboard fed by clicks inside your own app is a vanity metric with a nice UI.

  • Score against operational data, not in-app engagement.
  • Let HR configure the rules rather than hardcoding a points table.
  • Automate the emails and nudges, or someone in HR becomes the bottleneck again.

Questions, answered

Questions L&D and HR buyers ask us first

01Do you build to SCORM or xAPI?

We build to whichever the buyer's LMS or record store requires, decided before the interface is designed. One fits a single browser session. The other fits a mobile app, a live event or a simulation, since it reports to a Learning Record Store instead of one LMS. Ask any vendor which format their platform emits. The two are not interchangeable.

02Can training completion sync into our HRIS?

Yes, and it should run on a schedule HR can audit rather than only on demand. ExtraaJe runs the sync in the other direction: shift data from Planwork feeds automatically into a rewards system, so nobody tracks activity by hand. The same discipline applies to writing completion data back into Workday, BambooHR, or whatever a client already runs.

03Will a live training event hold up with everyone joining at once?

That is the load pattern to design for from day one, not to discover in production. Elevent keeps scores and answers in sync for sessions from 10 participants to over 1000 at once. It clusters across servers, so one machine is never a single point of failure.

04How do you prove engagement is real and not clicks in the app?

Score against a source of truth the client already trusts, not activity inside our own interface. ExtraaJe scores rewards against real Planwork shift data. A leaderboard built only from in-app clicks does not survive the first audit question.

05Can this integrate with the LMS our client already has?

Usually yes, and we confirm the specific system and API before quoting. A platform that cannot report into an existing LMS becomes a second system nobody trusts. Integration gets scoped before the first screen is designed.

06Can you work alongside our in-house team?

Yes. Senior engineers join your team and your existing codebase rather than running a separate project. Scoping calls are free. Where the work starts inside code you already have, there is a paid two-week diagnostic ending in a fixed price.
