Overview

ExtraaJe turns real shift data into rewards employees can spend. It reads work activity from Planwork, assigns points automatically, and lets staff redeem them in a mobile app. HR runs campaigns, challenges, rewards, and emails from one dashboard, so recognition no longer depends on someone tracking overtime by hand.

The challenge

The problem we set out to solve.

01

Nobody tracked overtime, extra shifts, or who joined company initiatives.

02

HR handed out rewards by hand, so recognition was slow and uneven.

03

Staff could not see how their work turned into rewards.

04

Shift data sat in a separate system with no live link to rewards.

What success needed to look like

  • Reward extra shifts and overtime without manual tracking.
  • Show every employee how their work converts into points.
  • Give HR one place to run campaigns, rewards, and email.
Our approach

Five sprints from spreadsheet to app.

  1. 01

    Diagnose

Mapped how shift and overtime data moved through Planwork, and where manual reward tracking broke down.

  2. 02

    Design

Designed the employee app around points, leaderboards, and redemption, plus the HR dashboard that sets the rules behind them.

  3. 03

    Build

Built the React Native app, the React admin dashboard, and the Supabase backend that scores Planwork activity into points.

  4. 04

    Launch

Shipped in Dutch and English for a workforce of several hundred employees, on one-week sprints.

  5. 05

    Run

Kept extending the reward and campaign rules as HR added new challenges.

The solution

What we built.

We built a mobile app for employees and a web dashboard for HR, joined by a Supabase backend that reads shift data from Planwork. The backend scores activity against rules HR sets, then posts points to each profile. Employees check points, leaderboards, and challenges on their phone and spend points in a reward marketplace. HR builds campaigns, sets the rules, and triggers automated emails through SendGrid. The app runs in Dutch and English.

A shift, from Planwork to redeemed pointsLive
  1. Shift workedPlanwork logs the hours and overtime.
  2. ScoreSupabase checks the shift against HR's point rules.
  3. PostPoints land on the employee's profile.
  4. NotifySendGrid emails the update, in Dutch or English.
  5. RedeemStaff spend points in the reward marketplace.

No step here waits on someone in HR to notice a shift happened.

  • React Native
  • Supabase (auth, APIs, business logic)
  • PostgreSQL (via Supabase)
  • Supabase cloud hosting
  • CI/CD pipelines

Integrations

  • Planwork API (employee shift data)
  • SendGrid (notifications and campaigns)

Roles & access

  • Employee (mobile app)
  • HR / admin (web dashboard)

Security

  • Supabase Auth with role-based access control
  • Row-Level Security for per-user data isolation
