Best AI Receptionists for Auto Repair Shops
Every demo in this niche answers a call politely. What separates them sits lower: whether an AI actually holds the conversation, and whether the booking lands in your shop management system.
The call we make
If you want something you can switch on this month, Steer's Call Assistants is the strongest packaged pick for an independent shop. It answers the calls your counter misses and books them on your shop's own calendar, inside a platform built for auto repair. You accept its limits with it: its integration list, its platform, and inbound work only. If you want that strength without the limits, a custom build from Hashlogics answers the line, books the job, and works outbound too, calling suppliers for parts quotes across every branch. The trade-off is that it is built for your shop rather than switched on, and we still rank it last.
This field splits in two, and most lists hide it. Numa and Brooke AI are dealership products by their own sites, wired to CDK, Reynolds and dealership schedulers. If you run an independent shop, a week spent evaluating them is a week wasted.
We build custom phone and workflow systems for repair shops, including the ZhoopZhoop build this page cites. That bias is declared, and it is why we rank ourselves last.
How we built this list
Verified
Capability claims go stale faster than anything else on a page like this. So we read every capability below on the vendor's own site on 1 September 2026, not on a review roundup. Two candidates were cut on that pass. Sameday lists eleven service trades on its industries page and none of them is automotive. Goodcall publishes no auto repair page at all, and its integrations stop at calendars and spreadsheets.
Dealership tools stay in, labelled as dealership tools, because owners searching this phrase run both kinds of shop. One bias to declare: we build custom voice agents for repair shops, so the subscriptions lead and our own approach sits last.
- A real conversation
- Whether AI holds the call and takes the booking, or routes the caller to a keypad menu and a text link. AutoOps sits in the second camp by its own description.
- Shop-system write-back
- Booked into Tekmetric, Shop-Ware, Mitchell 1, AutoLeap or whatever you run, as the vendor itself publishes it.
- Built for whom
- Independent repair and tire shops, dealership service lanes, or every local business at once.
- Handoff and guardrails
- A person on request, with price and scope decisions left where they belong: your service advisor.
- Work beyond the inbound ring
- Status updates, outbound follow-up, parts sourcing. Phone work that fills the rest of your team's day.

Ranked for independent repair shops
Best fit first. Where two tools tie on call quality, the one that writes deeper into the shop system wins.
Auto-repair platform with AI answering built in
Steer runs front-of-house tools for repair shops, and Call Assistants picks up when your team is busy or the shop is closed. It books the appointment using your shop's own calendar and services, or texts the caller a booking link. Transfers to a person follow the instructions you set.
Its integrations page names Tekmetric, Shop-Ware, Mitchell 1, AutoLeap, Protractor and NAPA TRACS among others. That list covers the Steer platform as a whole, so confirm in writing what the call assistant itself writes back on your exact system.
Best for
- Independent and multi-shop operators already on a supported shop management system
Not for
- Shops that need outbound calls worked, since Call Assistants answers inbound
- Focus
- Auto repair front-of-house

Avoca ↗
Voice AI with a real automotive page and outbound
Avoca's automotive page promises an agent that answers calls, books jobs into your CRM and routes emergencies around the clock. It also works the other direction: automated win-back campaigns by call, text and email to past customers, with call scoring on top.
It names Tekmetric, Shop-Ware and Mitchell 1 as shop management integrations, in its own words 'and more'. Avoca started in home services, so ask for a repair-shop reference before you sign.
Best for
- Shops that want answering and customer win-back from one vendor
Not for
- Owners who want a vendor that works in automotive and nowhere else
- Focus
- Inbound and outbound voice AI
Booking rails for independents, not a conversationalist
AutoOps is the scheduling layer. Online booking runs from your site and Google. A live two-way sync creates appointments directly in Tekmetric, Shop-Ware, Mitchell 1, Protractor, NAPA TRACS and a dozen other shop systems. It can pull vehicle records and offer previously declined work while your customer books.
Its Voice product is honest about what it is: a call tree where the caller presses a key and gets a booking link by text. Nobody talks to an AI. If your callers will self-serve, that is a feature. If they want to be heard, it is the gap.
Best for
- Shops whose leak is after-hours and online booking rather than live conversation
Not for
- Owners expecting an AI to hold the call and take details by voice
- Type
- Scheduling platform
- 04
Rosie ↗
The small-shop answerer with the lightest setup
Rosie answers every call live, triages breakdown emergencies, books routine maintenance and filters spam. It is aimed at solo owners and small businesses that cannot always reach the phone.
Bookings go to your calendar or out as a scheduling text. There is no shop-management write-back, and its published integration is Zapier. Treat it as a much better voicemail with a diary, and measure it on the jobs it books.
Best for
- One-bay and mobile operations that miss calls under a car
Not for
- Shops that need bookings written into Tekmetric or Shop-Ware rather than a calendar
- Tier
- Solo and small shops
- 05
Numa ↗
Dealership-grade AI for calls, texts and unsold work
Numa answers service calls and texts for franchise dealer groups, books appointments and chases unsold work with outbound agents. Its published integrations are dealership systems: CDK, Reynolds and Reynolds, Tekion and the Xtime scheduler among them.
Nothing on its site serves an independent shop, and no independent shop system appears in its integration guide. Run a dealership service lane and it belongs on your shortlist. For an independent shop, it does not.
Best for
- Franchise dealership groups on CDK, Reynolds or Tekion
Not for
- Independent repair shops, which its integrations do not cover
- Market
- Franchise dealerships
A 24/7 service coordinator for dealer fixed ops
Brooke AI, from Better Car People, answers dealership service calls with an AI voice and books in real time through your scheduler. Overflow and after-hours are the point. Its page says it understands shop hours, overflow and when to escalate to a human, which is the right instinct.
No specific scheduler is named on its product page, so get your integration confirmed before you buy. Like Numa, this is a dealership product; independents are not its market.
Best for
- Dealership service departments losing overflow calls to voicemail
Not for
- Independent and collision shops on Tekmetric-class systems
- Market
- Dealership fixed ops

A custom-built system
When the phone is one of several jobs to automate
Hashlogics built this exact system for ZhoopZhoop, a multi-branch Toronto auto repair group. An AI receptionist answers and books, outbound agents call suppliers and bring back parts-quote comparisons, and one dashboard covers every branch. None of the subscriptions above sells that combination. Outbound parts work and the cross-branch view are what make it custom.
Approval work has in-trade numbers too. VentaVid, an automotive video platform we helped build, publishes a 22% higher approval rate on recommended service work when the customer can see the inspection. A build costs more than any subscription on this page and suits groups and busy multi-bay shops, not a quiet counter. That is the honest boundary.
Best for
- Multi-branch groups that want the phone, parts sourcing and status work in one system
- Shops on systems no packaged vendor connects to
Not for
- A small shop whose whole problem is the missed call; switch on a subscription above
- Builder
- Hashlogics
- AnsweredWhile every tech is under a car.
- BookedA slot in your shop system, not a message.
- ConfirmedYour customer gets a text; your counter stays quiet.
- WorkedStatus, approvals and parts calls off your team's plate.
Most tools stop at the second node. The rest is where a shop's day actually goes.
When a packaged tool is the right answer
If your only problem is the missed call, buy a subscription. Steer or AutoOps on a supported shop system covers your front counter without a project. For a three-bay shop with one advisor, that is the correct engineering call.
A custom layer starts paying when the phone is one leak among several. Suppliers get rung by hand for every part, approvals wait on a customer who never picks up, and three branches hold three versions of the truth. Our shop automation page for auto repair walks that layer end to end.
- 01Missed calls only, supported shop system: Steer, measured on booked appointments.
- 02Online and after-hours self-serve booking: AutoOps, measured on schedule fill.
- 03Dealership service lane: Numa or Brooke AI, on your DMS.
- 04Parts calls, approvals and branches in scope: a custom build.
Some of the systems we have shipped
Counter three deep and the phone still ringing?
Book the free Front-Counter Audit: a senior engineer reads a month of your calls by hour and maps what a subscription covers and what a build would change. Every build starts with a fixed-fee Blueprint, credited in full against the build. And you can run the agent live on your number for 30 days before you decide.
Shop questions
01What is the best AI receptionist for an auto repair shop?+
Steer's Call Assistants is the strongest packaged pick for an independent shop. It answers with AI and books on your shop's own calendar, inside an auto-repair platform. Avoca adds outbound win-back, AutoOps covers self-serve booking, and Numa and Brooke AI serve dealerships. A custom build fits when parts calls, approvals or multiple branches join your scope.
02Do AI receptionists write bookings into Tekmetric, Shop-Ware, Mitchell 1 or AutoLeap?+
Steer and AutoOps both publish integration lists naming those systems, and Avoca names Tekmetric, Shop-Ware and Mitchell 1 on its automotive page. What 'integration' means still varies, from a real write-back to a texted booking link. Get your exact system's path in writing before you sign.
03Can an AI receptionist quote repair prices over the phone?+
It should not, and the good ones do not try. A quote is a commitment your shop has to keep, so scope and price stay with your service advisor. Your agent's job is intake: name, vehicle, concern, preferred time, and a clean handoff to a person on request.
04Can AI make outbound calls, like ringing suppliers for parts quotes?+
Yes, though not with the receptionist subscriptions on this page, which answer inbound. In the ZhoopZhoop build, outbound agents call suppliers, collect availability and hand back a comparison. Your parts manager chooses, and a person places the order.
05Why are Goodcall and Sameday not on this list?+
We checked both vendors' own sites on 1 September 2026 and neither publishes anything for auto repair. Sameday's industries page lists eleven service trades, none automotive, and its integrations are field-service systems. Goodcall's product is real but generic, with no auto page and calendar-level integrations. Entries we could not source to a vendor's own pages were dropped.
06Why trust a ranking from a software firm?+
Every vendor claim here was read on that vendor's own site on a named date. Our methodology lists the criteria, so you can re-run the comparison yourself. We sell none of the subscriptions above. We build custom systems, a bias we have declared and ranked last on purpose.
