True cost per job

Which jobs is your shop losing money on?

Four inputs from your own floor. A yearly figure for the hours paper travelers eat. No email required.

What you get

4 things that decide this

  1. 01A yearly estimate of the hours spent re-typing traveler data into spreadsheets and accounting.
  2. 02A per-job view: what admin and rework add to the price you quoted.
  3. 03It will not price your jobs for you. It shows where the quote and the reality drift apart.
  4. 04If the number is small, your paperwork is not the bottleneck. That is worth knowing too.

How it works

The True Cost Per Job Calculator takes four inputs: jobs per month, average quoted price, hours spent re-typing job data each day, and your scrap or rework rate. Shop-floor software vendors report one to two hours a day of re-typing as the common pattern in shops running paper travelers, a pattern documented by Weever and Eziil.

The output is a sentence built only from what you entered. It shows roughly how many hours a year your shop spends moving job data by hand, and what that adds to each job. No benchmark is invented on your behalf.

Most shops find out a job lost money when the accounts get reconciled, weeks later. The calculator will not fix that. It tells you what the delay is costing while you decide whether to.

Where the cost hidesLive
  1. QuotePriced from estimated hours
  2. TravelerPaper follows the job
  3. Re-typingData entered again, later
  4. ReconcileTrue cost appears weeks after

The gap between the quote and the reconciliation is where margin disappears.

Questions, answered

Questions, answered

01Is this only for machine shops?+

It fits any job shop that quotes work and runs it on paper or spreadsheets. Fabricators, machine shops and contract manufacturers see the same pattern.

02Where does the one-to-two-hours figure come from?+

From shop-floor software vendors Weever and Eziil, who document daily re-typing in paper-traveler shops. It is a preset, not a claim about your shop. Enter your own number and the result uses it.

03Does the result get stored or sent anywhere?+

No. Nothing is saved and no email is required. The number is for you.

Let’s build the one that runs after.

We build AI agents and automation, then stay on under an agreed service level. A senior engineer reads every brief, and your call gets scheduled within 24 hours.

What happens next

  1. 01

You send a brief or book a call

    Two minutes, whichever you prefer.

  2. 02
