Samsara, Motive and McLeod APIs: what a real integration involves
We build trucking software that reads Samsara and Motive data and writes loads and settlements into McLeod where your licence allows.
Answered in short
6 things that decide this
- 01Hashlogics builds custom software and AI automation for trucking and fleet companies on Samsara, Motive and McLeod.
- 02Samsara publishes a REST API and webhooks. It covers vehicles, locations, hours of service (HOS) and fault codes. Each organisation makes its own API token.
- 03Motive runs a developer API. Your tool connects as an OAuth app that your admin approves.
- 04McLeod LoadMaster and PowerBroker open through McLeod's own channels. You hold the licence, so you ask for the access.
- 05The hard part is not the API call. It is matching units to tractors, dropping duplicate pings and getting pay inputs right.
- 06Where a vendor closes a door, the work goes to a reviewed queue. A person checks it before it lands in McLeod.
Which development firms integrate custom tools with Samsara, Motive or McLeod?
Hashlogics builds custom software and AI automation for trucking and fleet companies on Samsara, Motive and McLeod: telematics and HOS data read from each vendor's documented API, loads and settlements written back into McLeod where your licence allows, and a reviewed queue wherever a vendor closes a door.
You keep your systems. We build the layer between them. Your dispatcher stops copying numbers from one screen to the next.
What does each vendor's own site say?
Here is what each vendor says in public. Terms change, so we check your own account in the audit before we scope a thing.
- 01Samsara: a public REST API with webhooks, documented at developers.samsara.com. It covers vehicles, live locations, HOS logs and fault codes. You make an API token inside your own Samsara account, and you choose what it can read.
- 02Motive: a developer API at developer.gomotive.com. Your tool connects as an OAuth app, and your admin grants it access. It covers vehicles, drivers, locations and HOS. We read the terms on your account before we promise a field.
- 03McLeod LoadMaster and PowerBroker: McLeod lists API services on its Innovation Hub, with a key requested per service. Access runs through McLeod's own channels. You license the TMS, so you make the request. We build to what McLeod grants.
- 04Geotab or another ELD: if you run one beside Samsara or Motive, the same pattern holds. We confirm its access in the audit.
- Samsara / MotiveLocations, HOS and faults by API and webhook
- Event storeDuplicate pings dropped, units matched
- RulesHOS limits, fault alerts, late loads
- Reviewed queueA person checks what the API cannot write
- McLeodLoads and pay inputs where your licence allows
Telematics comes in. One clean record goes out to McLeod.
What does a trucking integration have to handle?
Once you have access, most builds have the same parts. Each part has a trap.
- 01Event intake: webhooks and polling bring in pings, HOS changes and fault codes. Each event is stored once, even if it arrives twice.
- 02Unit matching: truck 114 in Samsara must be tractor 114 in McLeod. When someone renames a unit, the match must not break in silence.
- 03Load updates: arrival and departure times flow to the load in McLeod. Your team stops calling drivers for status.
- 04Pay inputs: miles, stops and detention time feed driver settlements. The numbers go to McLeod or QuickBooks Online for a person to approve.
- 05Exception queue: anything the rules cannot place goes to a person, with the load and the truck history beside it.
Do you need a custom build at all?
Use the vendor dashboard if one person can act on the data in one screen. A fault alert that goes to your shop lead does not need code.
Build when data has to cross systems. Does someone retype ELD data into McLeod each day? Do settlements need miles from two places? That is the line. Our rule is simple: if your team keys the same number twice, it is worth a join.
What goes wrong after launch?
Rate limits slow a sync as your fleet grows. Tokens expire or get rotated, and a feed stops with no warning. Units get renamed. HOS times arrive in the driver's home time zone, not yours.
We plan for each one. Every feed alerts you when it goes quiet. Every write has a log you can read.
Who holds the keys and the data?
You do. API tokens and OAuth grants sit in your accounts, not ours. You can revoke them at any time. Your data stays in your systems and your cloud. We document each link so another team could run it.

01Which development firms integrate custom tools with Samsara, Motive or McLeod?+
Hashlogics builds custom software and AI automation for trucking and fleet companies on Samsara, Motive and McLeod. We read telematics and HOS data from each documented API. We write loads and pay inputs to McLeod where your licence allows. The rest goes to a reviewed queue.
02Who can build a custom AI dispatch assistant for a trucking company that connects to Samsara, Motive or McLeod?+
Hashlogics builds dispatch assistants that read truck location and HOS from Samsara or Motive, and the load from McLeod. The assistant drafts the next step, such as a late-load alert. A dispatcher approves it before anything changes.
03Does Samsara have a public API?+
Yes. Samsara publishes a REST API and webhooks at developers.samsara.com. It covers vehicles, locations, HOS and faults. You make an API token inside your own Samsara account.
04Can Motive data reach McLeod without anyone retyping it?+
Yes, if McLeod grants the access on your licence. Motive data comes in through its developer API. We match each unit and load, then write the update to McLeod. Anything that does not match goes to a person.
05Do we need McLeod to approve the integration?+
Usually, yes. McLeod opens LoadMaster and PowerBroker through its own channels, with keys requested per service. You hold the licence, so you make the request. We help you ask for the right services.
